About Us The Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club, established in 1988, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs, and to provide and promote canine education to the general community.
The club which is based in Cumming, Georgia, was established in 1988 as an all-breed A.K.C. dog club. The Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club is licensed by the American Kennel Club to hold pointed conformation and obedience events plus Rally Trials. In 2007 SMKC has been accepted as a Member Club of the American Kennel Club. To achieve its goals, our club distributes canine information, videos and education packets to area schools and libraries as well as participating in county fairs and other occasions.
Community Service - Our club strives to be active in all phases of community service. In 2007 we have donated 5 bullet proof vests for Forsyth County K-9 officers plus 2 vests for our new K-9 officers in Lumpkin County. Also we have donated a bite suit for Lumpkin County for their officers training needs. We plan in 2009/2010 to continue to update the K-9 needs in our other communities. Also this year we distributed a supply of animal resuscitation masks to Cherokee County, Hall County, City of Gainesville, Dawson County and Lumpkin County Fire Departments or First Responders. We are receiving excellent response from these.
In 2004/2005 we provided training suits for Forsyth County, special ballistic and stab proof K-9 vests for the 2 bomb dogs in Hall County plus bullet-proof vests for the K-9 dogs in Gainesville, Habersham, White, Dawson, Lumpkin and Cherokee Counties, as well as “COOL VESTS” for their heat protection.
We support the
AKC Canine Health Foundation (Rabies
Challenge),,
UGA Sundown Surgery Fund,
National Animal Interest
Alliance (NAIA),
SMKC is active with Disaster Preparedness and Dog Responsibility for the Community. In order to achieve these donations, our club sponsors two AKC Dog Shows held in Atlanta during January/February and August of each year. In October, the club holds their annual confirmation match at Central Park in Cumming along with obedience, Rally Trials and offer Canine Good Citizen testing for the dogs.
